Insurance Software Component Technology - A Flexible System for Growth and Change

The Administrator
The Administrator is the only system available today that truly processes all transactions in a 100 percent on-line, real-time environment.  The Administrator is available 24x7.  This combination is absolutely essential to any life insurance company wanting to survive and thrive in the SOA business world.

With The Administrator there are no limits to when, where or how your customers, business partners, and employees interact with the system.  Based on customer-defined rules, the system will automatically become available for processing of the next business day while internally bringing to a close the processing of the previous day.  The system never has to be brought down.

Through the use of Web Services and SOA, information is always available in the most open way possible.

Internationalization & Localization
The Administrator includes an integrated translation facility, which can automate the translation of the system into multiple languages.  Both the graphical user interface and all system documentation can be easily maintained to support all the languages you desire.

Multiple languages can be supported in a single version of the system and are user selectable via a drop down menu.  The Administrator provides full Unicode support.  The system is available for demonstration in English, Spanish and Japanese.  Complete localization of the Administrator for the Japanese market place is presently underway and is available for installation today.

Service Oriented Architecture
Web Services
SOA and Web Services typify LIDP’s commitment to embrace important new technologies.  With The Administrator, every service required to run an insurance back office is provided using industry standards and Web Services.

The 21st century CEO knows that the speed of the enterprise determines revenue.  Growth is achieved through acceleration and is directly correlated to responsiveness.

LIDP customers can achieve these objectives by bypassing older development technologies and moving directly to SOA based development.

Software development in the 21st century will be characterized by creating, deploying, and consolidating SOA services into business solutions.

J2EE Scalability
The Administrator’s J2EE development environment delivers a next generation software development platform that is scalable, technology neutral, portable, and modular.  The Administrator delivers the development environment with object models, data models and a completely open SOA communication standard for the life insurance industry.

With The Administrator, technology is no longer the roadblock that gets in the way of embracing change.  LIDP customers can develop and deploy their own J2EE applications anytime there is a need to distinguish themselves.  New components may be built using J2EE, .NET, or any computer programming language, as long as they support SOA.

Component Architecture
Component architecture and communication standards allow our customers to build a best of breed insurance processing enterprise platform.

Commissions
The Agency Management System (AMS) is an online, real-time solution to handling the myriad of product distribution channels in the insurance industry.  AMS provides a wide range of features for contracting and licensing, compensation calculation, disbursement of earnings and reporting for a company's field force.

While fully integrated with The Administrator, AMS can also be used as a stand alone compensation system, receiving commission extracts interfaced from external policy administration systems. This allows AMS to consolidate multiple policy administration systems for any line of insurance into a single check and statement for a company's multi-line marketing force.

Client
The Administrator includes a fully integrated online real-time client management system. The system identifies policy related contractual relationships between individuals, entities and companies. One record is maintained for each client, regardless of the number of contracts with which the client is associated or the types of relationships.  A client record can have multiple related addresses and billing situations.

Client management is not restricted to contracts administered on The Administrator.  The system can also be used as a corporate client system, managing all client information, regardless of the administration system. The Administrator architecture also allows for the use of an enterprise client management system, in lieu its own.

Product Development
Creating new products, and making changes to existing products, is a simple straightforward process.  Product definitions are controlled by a database rather than programs. Every coverage, benefit, extra, cash value, interest rate, reserve factor, account value, customer option and exception is defined, uniquely identified, and stored in the Product Description Database.
Product features can be varied and tested in a real-time environment with limited or no involvement from information services personnel.  Alterations can be made and immediately tested to facilitate verification of product design concepts.

The system can process hundreds of categories of product and processing features represented by thousands of variables that can be precisely defined to match marketing objectives.

  • Importing the policy from the policy administration system
  • Determination of the claimant's eligibility
  • Calculation of benefit amounts
  • Production of the explanation of benefits

Enterprise Rules
LIDP’s architecture allows for the use of any JSR-94 compliant Rules Engine.  For companies already using a JSR-94 compliant Rules Engine such as ILOG, Haley’s or JBOSS, the transition to The Administrator will be simple.

LIDP has deployed rules engines for adjudicating claims and in expert underwriting solutions.

Calculation Engines
The Administrator’s architecture allows new business, illustrations and contract administration to share a common calculation engine.  Whether producing cost disclosures, new business policy specification pages or a projection on an annual statement, the values will always be the same.

The architecture also allows for the use of multiple calculation engines.  This methodology protects the investment our customers have made in the past, allows them to develop new calculations and ensures that future changes in product processing and technology can be accommodated.

Insurance Object Model & Data Model
Separating the object model from the data model allows our business users and developers to work on business problems/solutions in a very efficient and logical manner.

The business solutions need not be described in terms of records, rows, data items, trailers, databases, or files.  The life insurance object model allows everyone to talk using the same terms; that is to say “business terms”, very effectively.  Meanwhile, the integrity of the data is controlled through the use of technology within the J2EE scalability framework.

The object model is coupled to the data model via LIDP’s unique documentation methodology.  Our documentation describes the relationships between the object and data models and is used to generate the database access utilities.  To change the organization of the business model, one merely needs to update the documentation.
